Today we went through a cute town called Einsiedeln and our friend who knows about Coquetta told us that in the town’s famous monastery, there are stables and some kind of special horses are bred there. Visitors can see the stables and learn more about the horses so we will have to stop by again (maybe when the weather is nicer).
Quick & dirty research suggests the breed dates back to 1000 AD and this website claims it is the oldest breed in Europe. In Italy, these horses are apparently known as “Cavalli della Madonna”. In the US, we know them as Swiss Warmbloods. From a peek at the images on the website, they sure look like lucky ones.
